The march was organized by the Nation of Islam to affirm self-respect and protest the conditions faced by black America. Yvette Collymore reports on the size and mood of the crowds in Washington. A number of prominent black Americans address the rally. Joe Nazel of Los Angeles Wave newspaper and Karl Rodney, editor of New York's Carib News newspaper comment on the impact the march is having outside of Washington. Hilary Beckles, Professor at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, comments on the significance of this march for the Caribbean. The Nation of Islam also made a call for black women to stay at home which has led to a range of reactions. Dr. Julianne Malreaux, a black economist comments that there were some women who rejected this call. New York City Councilwoman Una Clarke comments on what the follow up to this momentum would be. Dominica's Prime Minister Edison James comments on the financing and their chances of obtaining the banana business. In Trinidad and Tobago, Prime Minister Basdeo Panday has been hospitalized with a chest related problem. Tony Fraser reports on the Prime Minister's diagnosis of an angina pectoris and the likelihood that Mr. Panday will reduce his workload when he does leave the hospital. Meanwhile, in Haiti, the vote counting continues following Presidential elections where Rene Preval is the expected winner. In light of the low voter turnout, Nancy McDonald of the Coalition of Independent Observers sums up Haitians' disinterest in electing a new President and Michael Norton assesses Rene Preval's expected term of office. In cricket, the West Indies Cricket Board of Control will move to Antigua in the new year. Jewel Forde examines the implications of the Board's relocation. On the Lara issue, the Board has agreed to uphold the fines imposed on Brian Lara and took no action regarding his withdrawal from the tour of Australia. The European Trade and Agriculture Commissioners told US Trade Representative Mickey Kantor they were unable to meet the US demands to open up their banana market to American producers. The European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid, Emma Bonino intends to make it clear to the Clinton Administration that there is disquiet in Europe over proposals to tighten sanctions against Cuba. In cricket, far from West Indies Manager Wes Hall's predictions, the West Indies are stuck in the starting blocks. The Errol Barrow Memorial Lecture in London examines the importance of West Indies cricket as a model for Caribbean unity. Professor Hilary Beckles, cricket historian, was the keynote speaker and comments on the issue. In recent years, Barbados has won medals at the Chelsea Flower Show in London.
