The time period is estimated to be early 1900s. The name is supposedly [Queen’s Park] which is located in the capital Bridgetown. In 1783 the large building, originally King's House, was the residence of the Commanding Officer of the British Troops in the West Indies. Today the park is a lovely place to visit while visiting Bridgetown.Item [Mill at Morgan Lewis, St. Andrew, Barbados, West Indies](The Main Library, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados is responsible for making this digital resource available., 2012-11-23)The Morgan Lewis mill is located in the parish of St. Andrew, Barbados. This mill was the last working mill in Barbados which stopped operating in 1947. It is one of two sugar windmills in the Caribbean that has been restored. The restored mill was reopened in 1999. It was listed in the 1996 World Monuments Watch. The image shows the front of the mill. At the back of the postcard: "Greetings, I have just spent the afternoon on the beach making the most of this beautiful weather. Am sure it’s going to be very cold this time next week in NY. This cruise is now almost over, we have only one more [town] to operate, that is tomorrow in St, Vincent. Wish you could be here to have a pleasant lunch with us, ah well, will have one for you." It is located at the foot of the Pitons near the town of Soufrière on the west coast of the island. It is part of the Soufrière estate which consists of 2,000 acres of land. The estate was presented by King Louis XIV in 1713 to three Devaux brothers from Normandy in recognition of their services to France. The postcard depicts the entrance of the gardens in the colonial period. Two male visitors to the gardens are in formal dress at the entrance. There are benches and a lamp which suggest that the area was used for outdoor entertainment. This area was owned by the War Department. It was purchased by the government in December 1905 and opened to the general public. Government House is located in Morne Fortune near Castries. The brick construction was completed in 1895. The black and white picture shows the entrance to the house which sits among Green foliage. At the back of the card is written St. Lucia (Ste. Lucie).Item Public gardens, Barbados(2012-11-26) The Main Library, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados is responsible for making this digital resource available.The Dolphin fountain was built in 1865 to commemorate the introduction of piped water in Bridgetown in 1861. It stands at the eastern end of Broad Street in the capital city of Bridgetown. The picture shows the fountain surrounded by palms and other vegetation. Resting on the side of the fountain is a bicycle. The back of the card says “My dear I can’t write by today’s mail, so must send this to let you both know we are well. [M] has felt better the last few days, sends love. We hope you both enjoyed your change and feel stronger, long for letters to hear all your news. When you see [D and E] give our love. Later it was utilized by organizations for the hosting of fairs and Police Band concerts. The West Indian Regiment was active in the British colonies from 1795–1927 and 1958–1962. In 1858 the West India Regiment adopted a uniform similar to that of the French Zouaves which comprised a red fez wound about by a white turban, red sleeveless jacket with yellow braiding worn over a long-sleeved white waistcoat, with dark blue breeches piped in yellow, white stockings, white gaiters and black shoes. This uniform was retained for full dress throughout the regiment until 1914 and by the band until disbandment in 1927. The regiment was unique amongst colonial units in that it was an integral part of the British regular army.
