Abstract

This paper examines television as a medium for formal and nonformal education in Jamaica, drawing on the observational techniques associated with qualitative research methods. It discusses television production sources, the cultural cost of foreign programming, local programming for formal and nonformal education, and research and planning. It is concluded that Jamaica has to closely examine the role of foreign programming aired at prime time on Jamaican television, and to make serious policy decisions in relation to its contribution to Jamaican development
