Abstract

This paper asserts that teacher education must be concerned with the philosophy, subject matter, and methodology of mathematics, it must be founded on a valid conception of the nature of mathematics, and it must deal with how children grow and learn, how to select and present materials, and how to evaluate what has been done. The need for research is also emphasized
