Abstract
This article traces the history of the Jamaican high school system between 1912-1943, considered as the second of three major phases in Jamaican secondary education. It highlights the major aspects of reform during this period and notes the significance of the fact that this period was shaped by the recommendations and events related to the Piggott evaluation of 1911 and the Kandel report of 1943
