Abstract
This article describes the Best Village Competition of Trinidad and Tobago, an experiment in mass education through cultural orientation, which was instituted in 1963--its assumptions, developmental activities, and assessment after 25 years. Through competitions, concerts, and exhibitions, it has succeeded in involving nearly every resident in programmes that fortify local culture, artistic expression, athletic achievement, and public health while promoting national unity
