I would not attempt to argue that there is a consensus out there on what constitutes anti-racist education and research. I only draw attention to certain basic challenges for those interested in the conduct of anti-racist work in the CaribbeanItem A baseline study of the teacher education system in Trinidad and Tobago(School of Education, UWI, St. Augustine, 2001) Quamina-Aiyejina, Lynda; Mohammed, Jeniffer; Rampaul, Balchan Deodat; George, June M.; Kallon, Michael; Keller, Carol; Lochan, SamuelThis monograph provides the following: 1) an historical overview of the development of the teacher education system in Trinidad and Tobago; 2) overviews of both the education system and the teacher education system; 3) a preliminary analysis of teacher education curricula; 4) a discussion of the quality and effectiveness of teacher education, 5) an analysis of teacher identities, attitudes, and roles; 6) an examination of resources for teacher education; and 7) a discussion of emerging issuesItem Challenges of Inclusive Schooling(Daily Express, 2004-05) Kallon, MichaelThe author examines the topic of inclusive schooling against the background of personal experiences as a graduate student in a foreign university and as a teacher educator in the Caribbean. Although the transaction model is seen as a step in the right direction, it is suggested that this model does not provide an orientation towards "empowerment" and "informed responsible action." Instead, the transformation method, which asserts that students should learn to see relationships between themselves and their social environment and between themselves and all aspects of the curriculum, is recommended as an alternative pedagogical strategy for schools in Trinidad and TobagoItem What Good Teachers Do(Daily Express, 2003) Kallon, MichaelThis article discusses constructivism as a teaching method that is required of teachers in Trinidad and Tobago in order to respond to several educational innovations. These innovations are seen as requiring a paradigm shift from traditional methods to new approaches to curriculum delivery, such as constructivism
