dc.description
This study examined the effect of the educational environment in the home on the school achievement of students in Trinidad schools. Achievement scores, measures of verbal and non-verbal intelligence, and measures of the Index of Social Background (ISB) were obtained from 60 students randomly selected from the Standard 4 classes of two schools in Trinidad. The Index of Educational Environment (IEE) was obtained from interviews with the mothers of students in the sample. The results showed that the IEE proved to be a more reliable predictor of achievement than the measure of social background
