dc.description
This article discusses an innovation in the 1983 Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) physics syllabus--the introduction of aspects of the history of physics. The development of the syllabus is outlined and the historical material in the syllabus is described. A variety of possible justifications for its inclusion is discussed. The assessment of the material in the CXC examinations is mentioned, and the resistance of Caribbean physics teachers to its introduction is noted. It is suggested that Caribbean physics teachers need greater support in order to better utilize the new material
