2. Guyana’s President, Desmond Hoyte is replacing his present election chairman. Sharief Khan reports that the President has announced that Mr. Rudy Collins, former Guyana’s Ambassador to Venezuela will be replacing Sir Harold Bollers. 3. Suriname’s interim government led under President Kragg has been accused of emptying the treasury with unnecessary expenditures to give its party an edge over the others at the May 25th elections. Leo Montpogo reports from Paramaribo (02:49-04:33)
4. Debra Ransome reports from Port of Spain that there is a hold up in a new multilateral agreement between British Airways and CARICOM governments. The hold up is caused by a dispute over a deletion of a sub clause allowing CARICOM to have a say in fare increases by British Airways (04:34 – 06:58)
5. Philip Greaves, Barbados’ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister responsible for International transportation, travels to Britain at the end out the month to hammer out his government’s position with aviation authorities here (06:59-07:13)
6. The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) today signed an agreement worth 11 million dollars with the EEC. The deal is part of the EEC/ACP’s regional tourism programme which was negotiatied some years ago under the Lome Convention. Around 5 million dollars will be placed on research, development, training and promoting the Caribbean in Europe. As CTO Jean Holder explains special emphasis will be based on finding new markets (07:14 -10:26)
7. The formal launching of the second Regional Constituency Assembly (RCA) got underway in St. Lucia today. The RCA is trying to advance plans for political unification of the four Windward islands. The first meeting took place in January and now these sessions which last until Friday will discuss available forms that political unification can take.
