dcterms.abstract | Caribbean libraries are undergoing episodes of strategic change and have renewed their mission, making rapid changes as the fourth industrial revolution is pivotal for technologies and advanced services. Library facilities are to be upgraded to group spaces with intelligent services for transformational learning. Space is regarded as a service and reassures that libraries are creating the new generation of services. The presentation aims to examine knowledge hubs such as makerspaces of smart technology and to establish a robust wireless environment to support a building of connected mobile devices. The presentation will illuminate key areas with the potential adoption of technology driven solutions to meet modern-day user expectations. A succinct picture of the presentation describes the impact of adopting advanced technological developments such as robotics and artificial intelligence, open access applications, big data, Internet of Things, social media, blockchain, virtual and augmented reality, facial recognition, instead of passwords, one click access, technology lending programs, self- service equipment and 24/7 cardless access to facilities using mobile phone. Additionally, the rise of mobile library services and different applications are the gateway to smart phones, tablets and wearable technology. Libraries must continue to remain agile and adaptable in the adoption of new technology to discover and harness the digital milieu and new media forms. Libraries will have to explore innovative ways in the current and evolving landscape to engage digital generations for a seamless library experience. The fourth industrial revolution is crucial for recasting libraries and ensuring there is a demand for services and resources. |
