Abstract
The article takes a historical look at the transition from tamboo bamboo bands to metal/steel and iron bands and the pioneers that contributed to the progress of the steelband (both the instrument and the movement). At Carnival 1939, the Alexander Ragtime Band was the first band to hit the streets with a new styling of music from metal pans.
