| dc.description.abstract | The aim of the syllabus is to bring about in students: 1) a knowledge and understanding of the common experiences of the peoples of the Caribbean; 2) an understanding and appreciation of the creative contributions of individuals and groups in their own territory and in other territories of the Caribbean; 3) an understanding of the concerns peculiar to their own territory and the circumstances which shaped them; 4) faith in their own abilities and capabilities; 5) tolerance of the viewpoints, beliefs and ways of life of other peoples; 6) sensitivity to the social, economic and political issues and conflicts in West Indian life; 7) willingness to examine and explore their attitudes and those of others in relation to the Caribbean historical experience; 8) willingness to express their own points of view on matters of national and regional concern; 9) willingness to consider new ideas and points of view; 10) willingness and desire to read historical material on their own initiative as a leisure time activity or to update information. | en_US |
