Tracer Study of Graduates with CXC Basic Proficiency Grades 1 and/or 2

Abstract

This document attempts to provide data to assist in determining whether the Caribbean Examination Council’s (CXC) Basic Proficiency scheme is serving the purposes for which it was designed. Questionnaires were sent to a sample of 300 graduates of secondary schools in County St. George, Trinidad, from a wide variety of school types. Results showed that 58 percent of the respondents were unemployed and that jobs obtained were at the lower end of the spectrum and not generally related to the subjects obtained.
