Education in Trinidad: Past and present
Abstract
This study sought to suggest possible solutions to existing educational problems in Trinidad, and to recommend a course of action for future improvement. It provides a critical examination of the basic philosophy, organization, structure, and administration of education in the country, from its earliest beginnings up to 1959, and attempts to identify the underlying problems faced in the educational development, and the major forces that have influenced this development. Recommendations are presented, which are basically concerned with the following areas of education: aims and purposes, administration, educational policies, the primary and secondary schools, higher education, and the teacher
