dc.description
This paper portrays structure and conditions for conducting systematic curriculum development at the secondary education level, among others, in Barbados. By comparison with primary education, the secondary level is unique in its needs and demands. In Barbados, educational aims expressed in secondary school curriculum are powerfully influenced by secondary entrance and leaving examinations. The former are for the selection of government and private students either for "grammar" general secondary schools or for comprehensive secondary schools; the final exams, whether UK or Caribbean, affect the status and treatment of subject fields. The paper presents models of curriculum development consistent for all present levels and which permit equivalence of standards to be considered. Its final chapter addresses problems peculiar to Barbados, and a conclusion suggests solution strategies
