dc.description.abstractThis article identifies and discusses several of the linguistic, socio-political and methodological problems confronting policy makers in St. Lucia when they have attempted to choose the language or medium through which literacy should be attained by the significant Kweyol-speaking segment of the society. The methods and findings of various researchers and projects are reported, and finally, "imperatives for action" in the immediate future are suggested
