Abstract
The paper argues that there is a need for technology education for all students in Trinidad and Tobago, as opposed to mere technical training for some. It describes the existing situation with respect to the technical component for the secondary school curriculum, and presents an empirical study of the attitudes of secondary school students towards technology. The results of this study suggest that the specialized craft and pre-technical courses offered in the secondary schools are not effective in developing positive attitudes to technology in the students who pursue them. The paper offers some directions for the development of the reasoned curriculum for technology education for schools in Trinidad and Tobago, and identifies some of the benefits likely to be derived from the adoption of such a curriculum.
