Abstract

This document takes a brief historical look at the emergence of the associate degree in the US and of the different types of associate degrees that have evolved in the Caribbean. It also reviews the development of a framework for the associate degree in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS): Antigua and Barbuda, The British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In addition, some important initiatives that should contribute to the long-term viability of the associate degree in the sub-region are identified and examined. Model syllabuses, sample exam papers, sample answers, and mark sheets are appended.
