dc.description
This monograph describes a study designed to discover and interpret the home conditions under which young children in the English-speaking Caribbean, especially the underprivileged, are nurtured. The main purpose of this volume is to document the process by which data were collected in order to provide a model for similar studies in other developing countries. In Section 1, detailed documentation of the project work plan is given, and study activities as conceived by the project team are reported; Section 2 shows what steps were taken to implement these plans; Sections 3 and 4 focus on the strategies developed for collecting data, selecting and training interviewers, and coding information; Section 5 briefly outlines study limitations and problems. Forms designed to guide the research team in their search for relevant reading materials are appended along with an outline of, and rationale for, the selection and training of interviewers
