Abstract
In explaining the relationship between education and society in Jamaica, the paper details four strata and shows how each evolved. Tables are provided, which show the distribution of the social classes at the various levels of the educational system. The overall conclusion drawn is that the education system in Jamaica is an agent of the social structure, reflecting static elements that cannot be expected to create revolutionary, or even substantial, changes in the social order
