dc.description.abstract | This report highlights the strike in St. Lucia as hundreds of Saint Lucians took to the streets on the second day of a general strike. George Goddard, Chairman of the Industrial Solidarity Pact, criticised the absence of the Prime Minister at this time. Meanwhile, the Office of the Attorney General has announced the appointment of a three-man commission of inquiry into the UN funds scandal. In England, investigations continue as a twenty-nine year old mother, of Jamaican parentage, is believed to have killed her three children and then committed suicide. Ken Richards reports that the search for an explanation is concentrated on the mother, Joy Senior and her link with the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Caribbean Report tracked down Joy Senior's father in Jamaica and asked Mr. Alvin Senior how he heard about the death of his daughter and three grandchildren. The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) presented its Annual Report for 1994 to the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors in Kingston. In the report, the CDB is recommending more cooperation as one means of accelerating regional economic growth. A benefit was launched at Lord's for former West Indies spinners, Sonny Ramadhin and Alfred Valentine. Brian Lara may carry the burden of West Indies batting hopes on the tour of England but Captain Richie Richardson is trying to ease the pressure on his world record breaker. | en_US |
