1. Headlines (00:00-00:34)
2. Britain’s Civil Aviation Authority is to adopt recommendations of a report into an incident involving a BWIA flight over London last year. The report by the British Department of Transportation recommended that air traffic controllers give their reason for requesting a pilot to divert its aircraft in an emergency situation. It also asked that the diversion routes selected should not be across densely populated areas. Interview with Richard Wright of the Civil Aviation Authority (00:35-03:40)
3. The UN Security Council has voted unanimously to impose sanctions on Haiti to press for the return of democracy. The Haitian authority will have one week to show progress in negotiations before an arms and oil embargo is imposed. American Ambassador to the UN, Madeline Albright says serious and honest negotiations are what is needed. Jon Leyne reports (03:41-07:57)
4. A British trade mission which is visiting Cuba says there is scope for trade and development between the two countries. The mission by the UK based Caribbean Trade Advisory Group (CARITAG) is led by Baroness Young, a conservative member of the House of Lords. With the prospect of an expansion of trade, the UK government is faced with a US law which bars foreign subsidiaries of US companies from doing business with Cuba. UK officials say that the US law will not be allowed to get in the way with its relations with Cuba. Interviews with Baroness Young, UK House of Lords and Leycester Coltman, British Ambassador to Cuba. Lionel Martin reports (07:58-11:26)
5. CARICOM is urged to accelerate the progress towards intra-regional free trade. Speaking in Cuba, Baroness Young said the region faces a real danger of marginalization if it fails to complete the first requirement of gaining access to the new trade blocs and should hasten its moves to expanding CARICOM. Interview with Baroness Young. Mike Jarvis reports (11:27-15:00)
