Abstract

This paper aims to: 1) Highlight the conditions in the Jamaican educational system which gave rise to the need for self-instructional materials (SIM); 2) explore the main factors that affected the implementation of SIM in (a) New Secondary schools and (b) primary schools in Jamaica, and 3) examine the extent to which there was planning for institutionalization. It also discusses some implications of the use of SIM in primary and secondary schools in Jamaica
