C recognises Industrial Arts as the first level of a three tier programme in Industrial Education within the wider spectrum of Technical/Vocational Education and Training, and a part of the general education of Caribbean youth. The nature of our society demands that skill acquired in the programme at the Senior Secondary level, prior to entry into the world of work or preparation for specific occupations, should have some marketable value. The four single subjects being offered for examination in 1982 are Electricity/Electronics, Metals, Technical Drawing, and Woods. Each syllabus for General Proficiency and Basic Proficiency leading to Secondary Education Certificate of the Caribbean Examinations Council is designed as a two-year course for the final two years of the normal five-year secondary school programme. As a pre-requisite, the foundation Industrial Art education should have been covered during the first three years of the secondary schooling.
