A new structure: The regional university in the 1990s and beyond

Abstract

This report enunciates the findings and recommendations of the review conducted by the Chancellor’s Commission on the Governance of the University of the West Indies (U.W.I.) in light of its current and prospective role in the region, and of relevant developments in university administration and practice elsewhere. The findings of the report are presented under 12 headings; 1) The State of the University, 2) The University Centre and the Campuses, 3) The Governance and Management of Central University Bodies 4) The Vice-Chancellor, 5) The Governance and Management of Faculties and Departments, 6) The University Centre and Accountability, 7) The University and Non-Campus countries 8) The University and its students 9) Communication, 10) Financing the University, 11) The University and its Role in the Region, 12) Implementation of the Report. A list of the commission’s recommendations on each of these topics is included, and a list of the persons interviewed, including those who presented submissions, is appended.
