Abstract

This document is designed to provide information about the evolution of Jamaica’s plans for the reform of the secondary education. It illustrates the problems of access, quality and equity that made the reform necessary; lists and outlines the major research studies that underpin the actions taken and proposed; and identifies the policy changes that have been agreed upon as a result of this research. It also describes the new curriculum, providing an outline of the content of each of its six core subjects, as well as an analysis of the levels of training of the first group of teachers who field-tested the curriculum in 1991.
