dc.description.abstractThis paper attempts to highlight some of the problems related to the study of teaching and to analyse the research evidence on teacher behaviour as it relates to student achievement. Two major positions are presented: the findings of American-based research and British studies. A comparison of the American and British positions is attempted, and implications of the findings for future research are discussed. An attempt is made to relate findings within the context of the Caribbean
