dc.description.abstract | The object of this investigation was to establish whether there is a demand for a regional qualification, the nature of such demand, and its chances for success. Questionnaires were sent to chief executive officers and personal officers in the industry, interviews were held with heads of tertiary institutions, and an assessment was made of similar type projects in developing countries. Data analysis showed that 95 percent of all respondents favoured the qualification, while 84 percent indicated that they would encourage newly recruited or unqualified staff to pursue local qualifications if they were available and of the desired standard. Recommendations are made for steps to be taken to establish the qualification, including investigations of the general level of education of insurance personnel, the extent of future financial and technical support, and the requirements for recognition by tertiary institutions and government. | en_US |
