Instructional systems development: A new approach to education planning in the health systems of the Commonwealth Caribbean: A manual for nursing and allied health instructors
Abstract
This study sought to develop a manual on the instructional systems development process, using a model derived through synthesis of several existing models. The manual was designed to be used for education planning in the health systems of the Commonwealth Caribbean, and was intended for instructors in nursing and the allied health professions in the region who were responsible for developing educational programmes for their professions and countries, within the cultural, political, and socio-economic contexts of these countries. The manual, developed in sequential steps, represented five phases--analysis, design, develop, install, and control--of the new derived model. It used the information mapping technique supported by graphics. Ten instructors confirmed its content accuracy, documentation, country-specific applicability, use of previous knowledge, and development of problem-solving skills. They concluded that it was comprehensive, factual, relevant, and timely to the educational needs of the health systems of the region
