dc.description.abstract | FBI officers flew into Haiti to investigate the death of Mireille Durocher Bertin, a prominent spokesperson for Haiti's right wing. Washington condemned the killing of Madame Bertin but indicated that President Clinton's visit will not be postponed. President Clinton is expected at the official ceremony to handover peacekeeping duties from the US to the UN. The human rights organization, Caribbean Rights, has condemned Trinidad's resumption of hanging. The Privy Council is to hear an appeal by Barbadian death row prisoner Robert Clarke after Easter. Brian Bernal, the son of Jamaica's Ambassador to Washington, Richard Bernal, has been convicted of drug offences. Missing police files in the Walter Rodney death probe in Guyana has been found. A bill seeking to give Caribbean countries parity with NAFTA came before the US Ways and Means Committee. | en_US |
