Abstract

This is a summary of the report of an evaluation that was undertaken to: 1) examine the level of attainment of the goals and objectives of the Hinterland Teacher Training Project (HTTP), 2) examine the effectiveness of the processes adopted, and 3) examine the activities undertaken to achieve project objectives. The evaluation used a sample of 80 untrained and unqualified teachers (from Regions 1, 2, 3, 7, 8. 9 and 10), 7 regional coordinators, 25 tutors, 4 subject specialists, and the project coordinator. Data were obtained mainly through the use of questionnaires and interviews. The main findings of the evaluation, in relation to each of the six research questions, are presented, as well as the implications and some of the recommendations.
