This document articulates the philosophy underlying the decision by Barbados’ Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Culture to computerize the nation’s public schools. The stated goal is to use computers in education to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge, the fostering of attitudes, the development of character, and the acquisition of skills that will impact on the students’ lives, bring out their creativity, and enhance their self-worth. In addition, the use of the computer is seen as the means for the students to acquire the technological literacy that will assist them to become active participants in the development of their family, their community, and ultimately, their nation.en_US
