This paper recognizes that in the English-speaking Caribbean there are several tertiary level agricultural training institutions and a not insignificant research capability, but that the history and insularity of territories have prevented the optimum utilization of these capabilities. It outlines the role that the Faculty of Agriculture, The University of the West Indies (UWI) could play in curriculum development, standardization of programmes, and coordination of agricultural training in the region, to facilitate accreditation and horizontal and vertical movement between institutions. A system to reduce costs of training for non-resident candidates is discussed
