Abstract
In St. Vincent, three convicted criminals were hanged under a shroud of secrecy. Journalist Theresa Daniel comments on when the media first learnt of the decision to execute the men and the public's general reactions to the executions. Defense lawyer and human rights activist Victor Cuffy responds to the news of the executions. In Guyana, a group of concerned citizens have written an open letter to President Cheddi Jagan concerning the racial and ethnic bigotry in Guyana. Guyana's Anglican Bishop Randolph George responds to the letter and describes the state of race relations in Guyana. CARICOM leaders prepare to meet in Belize to discuss the future of LIAT. The British Caribbean dependency of Montserrat has to decide by the year 2000 whether or not it wants to become an independent nation. Chief Minister Reuben Meade stated that the people would have to decide through a referendum. After successfully leading the West Indies cricket team against India and New Zealand, Courtney Walsh happily handed over the captaincy to Richie Richardson. Chris Florence talks to Walsh about his outstanding performance.
