Abstract
This article describes the Commonwealth Caribbean--17 English-speaking countries in the Caribbean, sharing history, culture, and developmental problems. It examines the social studies of individual Commonwealth Caribbean educational systems and highlights the need for improved teacher education, textbook availability, and a six-level primary social studies course. It also identifies seven ways social studies development can serve nation-building
