2. The Premier of Nevis Vance Amory informed BBC Caribbean Report that the issue of secession still lingers and will form a component of his party’s election strategy. Denzil Douglas, the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, mentioned that secession will not be a part of the elections March 3. Mr. Amory’s drive to separate from the Federation with St. Kitts was defeated in a referendum several years ago. (00:29-03:33)
3. In the Bahamas, a 33 year old man is being held in custody for circumstances surrounding the death of two policemen. The police suspect the man fleeing the scene of the incident could assist in the investigation. Bahamians are left questioning the integrity of the force and what actually happened in the patrol car. 4. A meeting is being called for Ministers of Parliament and insurance executives by a member of the Netherlands Antilles Parliament to discuss pressing issues in insurance coverage. A second company stopped operations in St. Maarten because it has become too expensive to cover hurricane damage. (06:01-09:30)
5. The head of the WTO Mike Moore is to make a speech shortly to urge an early launch of new trade talks. Mr. Moore is to address the UN conference on UNCTAD in Bangkok. Mike Moore believes in light of a lack of consensus in the failed meeting in Seattle, there is the need to revisit issues since developing countries are the ones who will feel it the most and who need assistance and market access. 6. St. Lucia’s Foreign Minister is agreeing to Cuba being a part of the African Caribbean Pacific Group of Countries (ACP). The ACP is negotiating a new trade agreement with the European Union that would comply with the Lomé` Agreement. (12:08-13:12)
7. Grenada is making its voice heard regarding the 6 year old Cuban shipwreck survivor, Elian Gonzalez. Senator Chester Humphrey has tabled a motion in the Upper House of Parliament imploring the U.S. government to let Elian return home to Cuba. (13:13-15:28)
