Abstract
The study was designed to gather information on the use and abuse of drugs among youth in Trinidad and Tobago, and on prevailing knowledge and awareness of, and attitudes towards, drug abuse and drug experience. Questionnaires were administered to a nation-wide sample of 3,023 young people of both sexes from all types of secondary schools, vocational and technical institutes, youth camps, the Youth Training Centre, and the unemployed. Analysis showed that alcohol was the most widely use drug, while 10.6 percent had used marijuana at some time, and 3.3 percent had used cocaine. Recommendations are made for drug education programmes, and treatment and rehabilitation.
