Abstract
In this report, Janet Jagan is sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Guyana. Her leadership style is discussed. Next, after a 34-6 victory in Friday’s election in the Bahamas, the leader of the Free National Movement and his new cabinet are to be sworn into office. Two consecutive terms by the Free National Movement leaves Sir Lyndon Pindling of the Progressive Liberal Party with little hope of a return to government. Next, there were clashes between police and demonstrators in the capital of the Dominican Republic. The cause being a possible hike in the price of petrol and the government not in agreement with transport drivers upping their fares. Next, the Inter-American Development Banks is expecting greater growth in the Caribbean and Latin American this year. However, it is not believed that this positive move would affect the region’s high unemployment. Next, the college career of Caribbean born Tim Duncan who is tipped to be the greats of basketball has come to an end in defeat. However, although his college career is over his great professional career awaits him. In the final segment, Peruvian rebels have been holding hostages in Lima since December. Among the hostages are Japanese businessmen and Japan’s ambassador to Peru. A Japanese envoy is heading to the Dominican Republic to lobby on behalf of Peru’s request for the Caribbean country to grant asylum to rebel hostage takers.
