Abstract
This article identifies the causes of the downward spiral of environmental deterioration in the Caribbean, and suggests six principal strategies that offer some prospects of halting, and even of reversing, this trend: 1) sustained yield, 2) environmental monitoring, 3) national parks and protected areas, 4) adequate planning and effective legislation, 5) private sector input, and 6) environmental education
