| dc.description.abstract | This paper was intended to sensitize teachers to some of the ideas being used in the assessment of mathematics achievement of secondary school students in several countries in the northern and southern hemisphere. It discusses the use of open ended tasks and extended tasks such as investigation, projects, practical tasks, and portfolio assessment schemes in mathematics. It also presents several examples of authentic assessment, both in the classroom and in high-stakes examinations, from a variety of sources. In addition, the importance of constructing appropriate grading criteria is highlighted. | |
