dc.description.abstract | This book is based on the belief that the management and practice of education can be greatly enhanced with the understanding of certain fundamental principles and theories of management, as well as a knowledge of the contextual environment-the educational system in which one operates. In this revision, features of the educational systems in a wider Caribbean context are highlighted, and aspects of structure and function, and the management and financing of education are discussed as they relate to territories such as Barbados, the Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago. It is organized in three parts: Part One presents a conceptual approach to management, describing relevant management theories and principles, and relating these to the school system; Part Two deals with the principles and functions of bureaucracy, and presents the bureaucratic structure of the educational system of eight Caribbean territories, and deals specifically with the Jamaican educational system; and Part Three presents the teacher as a classroom manager. It focuses on expectations and roles, and on the application of management processes and skills in the classroom, in particular, and the school and community in general | |
