This paper traces the development of postgraduate and continuing education programmes at the University of the West Indies (UWI) for the management training of engineers and senior personnel in the construction industry in Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean territories. It discusses the initial problems encountered in mounting the various programmes and touches briefly on the continuing education model developed for training senior personnel in construction project management. Results of a survey on the effectiveness of such continuing education courses are presented, and the adaptation of these courses to stimulate challenging work experiences, using the case study approach to ensure effectiveness, is recommended
