Abstract
The St. Vincent and the Grenadines government refutes US allegations of links between drug money and political campaigns. Deputy Prime Minister Parnell Campbell of the country gives his reaction to the US State Department report. The Haitian government plans to reduce its import duties as part of its liberalization programme. However, this planned tariff reduction has provoked concerns in the Dominican Republic. In Jamaica, Opposition Leader Edward Seaga has emerged victorious from the first round in the latest challenge to his leadership. The EU Council of Ministers reach an agreement to lift most but not all the barriers on imports of rum from independent Caribbean countries. Celebrations to mark the 150th years since indentured Indian labourers arrived in the Caribbean got off to a controversial start in Trinidad. Linford Christie has withdrawn from the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Barcelona.
