Domestic violence is not a new phenomenon, but a sociocultural issue
that has affected individuals across ethic divides, socioeconomic groups,
and cultural beliefs systems. Within recent times, this phenomenon has
caused an increase in awareness among policy makers as well as social
activist groups as a result of the increasing incidence of homicide among
women in intimate partner relationships.
