Kitchener, The Mighty Sparrow, Len 'Boogsie' Sharpe and De Fosto were just some composers who received awards in the article, along with Pat Bishop who gave the feature address.Item Steelbands Receive Appearance Fees(Newsday, 10-Dec-98) Unknown; The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus, Trinidad and TobagoThe assistant manager of the National Steelband, John Hoyte, received the appearance fees for steel bands which participated in the Pan On D' Move event, held as part of the City Week celebrations. The Mayor of San Fernando, Gerard Ferreira, presented 15 cheques, each in the sum of $1,500, to Hoyte at a simple function held at City Hall.Item Twelve Entries Received for Pan Innovation Contest(Trinidad Guardian, 4-Oct-86) Unknown; The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus, Trinidad and TobagoThere were 12 entries received for the first ever Rudolph Charles Pan Innovation Award and the winner will be announced during the finals of the Steelband Music Festival. The award is for the most useful and cost effective steelband invention and innovations related to the preparation and performance of music on the pan.
