    The Commonwealth Arts and Cultural Foundation, in association with Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner Garvin Nicholas hosted the Steelpan Awards 2011 at the Trinidad and Tobago High Commission, London on July 26. The event was held to celebrate the diamond jubilee of the Trinidad All Steel Percussion Orchestra (TASPO) and the Golden Jubilee of the Dixieland Steel Orchestra.

    TandT Music Pioneers Honoured in New York
    (Guardian, 9-Jun-12) Ashby, Glenville; The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago
    Austin Stoker and Michael Alexander were recognised and honoured in Brooklyn for their sacrifice and contribution to the Caribbean art form. As members of a trio they made a historic appearance with a three piece steelband in the 1954 Broadway musical production, House of Flowers which was one of the early highlights for steel band music in New York.
