Permanent URI for this collection

The Caribbean Corona Chronicles is an Oral History initiative of The Caribbean Civilisation Unit of the Faculty of Humanities and Education, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. The main goal of this two-year project is to create a historical digital archive of video recordings and transcribed interviews of persons of various vocations across the Caribbean whose lives have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. Utilizing the UWISpace digital research repository, this public archive will provide critical information for academic researchers, documentary makers, analysts and policy designers and help to strengthen future public health responses.

The project will run in three phases. The first phase from July 2021 to July 2022 will involve the interviewing of persons from various Caribbean territories and diverse professions via the Zoom Web Conferencing platform. Phase 2, from July 2022 to December 2022, will entail the transcription of these interviews and final development of the database. In Phase 3, December 2022 to July 2023, the collected recordings will be used to produce a short online documentary on the Caribbean Covid-19 pandemic experience.
