Dr McShine did his training in London at the time when Eric Williams was at Oxford. He is representative of a group of West Indians who made the return to the motherland in the late nineteenth/early twentieth century. He had a successful legal practice in the Gold Coast and was a member of the Legislative Council from 1930 until his death in 1940. The persons interviewed are Ghanaians, all of whom were either relatives or friends of Christian. Their names are given with the tapes.Item OP50 - Rouse, Ivan B. J.(2010-06-15T18:48:51Z) Brereton, Bridget; Rouse-Jones, Margaret; Rouse, Ivan B.J.Ivan B. J. Rouse was born in November 1906 and has made a sterling contribution to education in Trinidad and Tobago. As a primary school student, he went through the bursary system, and was the first such student to pass the Cambridge examination syllabus. He went on to become a fully certificated teacher in 1928 after studying at the Teacher's Training College. He then took up a post as Head Teacher at Adelphi E.C. School, Mason Hall, Tobago and has the distinction of being the youngest person to serve as a head teacher. During his long and distinguished career in the educational profession he served as Manager of the St. Mary's Children's Home, President General of the Teachers' Economic and Cultural Association and as an Inspector of Schools. He was also a foundation member of the People's National Movement (PNM) and Education Officer of the Party's Constituency Group in Tacarigua. She was the last of the four non-Trinidadian principals of Bishop Anstey and took the school through a very important era in the history of education in Trinidad and Tobago. She also taught in Carriacou before retiring to her homeland. At the time of the interview, Miss Sutherland, aged 88, was living in Malborough, Devon, England. The interview was done to mark the 75th Anniversary of Bishop Anstey High School, which was celebrated during 1996.
