    Sir Ellis Clarke was President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago at the time when this interview was done. A lawyer by profession, he held several important positions in Trinidad and Tobago - among them Solicitor General, Attorney General, Acting Colonial Secretary - before becoming President, a position which he held for ten years, 1977-1987. To date, this is the only interview which has been videotaped.

    Jack Kelshall was a lawyer and politician who espoused democratic socialism. He was involved in the politics of Trinidad and Tobago in the 1940s and l950s. He was also involved with the Youth Council and the trade union movement, serving for many years as legal advisor to the Oilfield Workers' Trade Union.
